You Can Always Go Home

Momma I'm comin' hoooooooooome.

Jules and I leave on an aeroplane tomorrow night for the East Coast (Beast Coast). Red eye -- SFO to IAD (Dulles), connect to RVA on some sure to be small dingy.

Sleeplessness (that word needs more s's), reading Anthony Bourdain, restless leg syndrome, darkness, middle seat, please no babies crying, please no panic attacks this time, please no delays this time (last trip home was the worst--alone in Newark for 5 hours, bad food, vouchers, no sleep).

Taking stock in the new RVA (TJ's, sprawl, movie theater, record shop). '09 version is an upgrade. Same watering holes, same dishes at the fave spots. New babies to kiss, kids growing rapidly. Fun family questions to answer. Warm weather, maybe we can sneak in a T'storm for old time sakes.

Good times to be had.

Then the roadtrip: Memphis, Davis Oklahoma, Santa Fe, Le Grande Canyon, the Mojave and Oakland in 6 days. Plains, prairies and puzzles. New music to be digested, stories to tell, car trip games to be played, energy drinks to be swallowed and diners to eat eggs at.

Welcome to 29. It's gonna be a good year.
