When I say...

Saul Williams put on a great show Fri. night at Slim's. He was straight energy from the start.
He came out on stage triumphantly wearing a blue feather headdress and a red feathered, black military coat--embracing the Niggy Tardust theme of the album/tour.
He didn't converse with the crowd as much as I expected but he definitely had the respect of the sold out show. Charismatic as ever, my eyes rarely left him.
Overall, it was a blissed out night. We witnessed the brilliance of a true talent.
***
Before attending the show on Fri. night I lay in a hypnogogic, disco nap-state prostrate on my couch with the NCAA b-ball tourney on. Wiping the sleep from my eyes I heard about a minute of Saul Williams' "List of Demands" while a montage of atheletes "pushed their limits" in all sorts of training exercises for their respective sports.
I thought I was dreaming. I thought i was so amped for the show that I was hearing Saul in my dreams!
Alas, it's Nike's new Sparq training campaign instead. It consists of a cool montage of true American athletic/egoist superiority (sarcasm-Yeah!Fuck Yeah!). It's pulsating and invigorating but only because Saul's music is pumpin.
Truth is, its a bit of a microcosm of American arrogance. They were going for cocksure confidence but fucked up and made it look arrogant as hell (not the children, oh no not the kids too! Damn!).

4 Days Unitl Saul touches down on Planet SF
Say It Ain't So
R.I.P. to THE BEST TV SHOW--"The Wire."After beginning my Wire marathon back in Xmas '07, I can honestly say that this show has changed my life...for the better.
No more Omar, no more Bubs, no more McNulty or Freamon. No more re-ups, no more Barksdale Organization, no more Chris and Snoop, no more of the most heartless coward of a villian Marlo, no more Daniels, no more Method Man as Cheese, No more "Propositions for yoooo...", no more grape soda, no more lake trout, no more beers by the railroad tracks, no more of The Bunk, no more Jameson, no more Carve, No more Hauk and Maury, No more mayor/governor Carcetti, no more of the streets, no more Dukie and Michael and Bug, no more of that fucking kid Kenard, no more of the best of the best.
The Wire will live on eternally in DVD and On Demand form.
It's in our hair, its in our blood, its on our minds, its in our hearts.
The Apatow Effect

While scouring http://www.imdb.com/ at work today I encountered some interesting Judd Apatow (director/writer-40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up) projects in the works over the next few years.
Apatow has been prolific as of late with his explosion of hilarious post-adolescent male tales. From the looks of things he's attempting to one-up himself with a CroMagnon Man story featuring none other than Jack Black and fan favorite Michael Cera (Juno, Superbad, Arrested Development). Cera's star seems to be ascending at lightspeed. Strike while the iron is hot George Michael!
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1045778/
Additionally, this film seems ever so tasty as I recently re-watched Jack Black's "Nacho Libre". Underrated, quirky and delicious.

We've seen the ads plastered all over SF--"I'm so over you Sarah Marshall."
On cabs, billboards, anywhere and everywhere you look you'll find this new movie. Pure Ubiquity. The campaign is genius--including a blog by Jason Segel's character.
Apatow and friends bring you "Forgetting Sarah Marshall". Out on 4/18/08.

I wanna be a cartographer
A friend just clued me in to http://www.mapjack.com/
The site provides street-level maps similar to that of Google Earth. This seems to be a sound alternative if you don't have Google Earth setup on your lappy.
I'm still creeped out by the fact that anyone can look at a shot of almost anyone else's front door. Ahh, moderninty.

Fat Boy
I've had a voracious appetite over the last two weeks. Hungry like the wolf. Insatiable like one of the kids from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (I'm talking to you Veruca Salt). In trying to get to the bottom of my stomach/appetite. I've attributed this binge to either working out more (which I have been doing) or sheer boredom.
The end of the Winter blahs is near. I'm still indulging in my cabin fever as of late and my post-work routine has been all about consuming 2-3 beers, eating a meal and snacking on everything from cereal to Ben& Jerry's to chips and salsa.
I have a taste for the flavor of...everything. I could only imagine how bad I'd be if I was smoking pot. Whew! I'd end up like Bill Murray in that glutonous Breakfast scene in "Groundhog's Day".
Just for catharsis sake I'm gonna name a few vices:
Doughnuts (you know cake donuts? you know!)
Ben & Jerry's - it only takes me one sitting to dead a pint.
Newman's Own Black bean and corn Salsa
Beer
Wine
Honey Nut Cheerios (Just like Omar from The Wire)
Cheese
Milkshakes
Cookies -Don't sleep on the cookies from Subway although I prefer Tom's
Yeah, it's like that. Fat boy in the house. Sho nuff.
Who Shot Ya?
Chris Rock clarified Biggie and Tupac's killings by stating they weren't assasinations so much as two brothers getting shot. Martyrs? Heroes? Glorified gangsters with the gift of gab?
However you peg them they changed the Rap game forever. Biggie's legacy lives on and will continue to do so with the makings of a biopic in the works.
From Urb.com:
"The Playlist reports that the search for Big Poppa is over. Mr. Jamal Woolard AKA Brooklyn rapper, Gravy, shall play Biggie Smalls in the biographical film to be released by Fox Searchlight. The flick shall also feature Derek Luke as Puffy (he was indeed called Puffy back then), Anthony Mackie shall play 2Pac and Angela Bassett shall play the lovely Voletta Wallace, Biggie's momma. The Playlist reports that the search for Big Poppa is over. I wanna know if they're getting the guy from Green Mile and Daredevil (Michael Clarke Duncan) to play Suge Knight.
